Character Description: The Prince of Mirkwood, young by Elven standards although not by those of any other race, is fair, slender, and has the distinctly radiant sort of glow that all elves possess. He stands at just over six feet tall, which makes him much taller than most humans on Middle Earth, and his body is well-muscled, but slender and lean. His blond hair flows to the middle of his back, and his eyes seem to change color depending on his mood. Sometimes they are dark and mysterious, sometimes light blue or even violet and full of laughter. His skin is pale, but with a faint hint of gold to it, a testament to his elven heritage. He customarily dresses in dark browns and greens, a tunic and leggings, cloak and bracers, at least when no more formal attire is required. However, as befits his station, he also can bring out all the stops when necessary, for a party or come other celebration. At those times, it's easy to remember just who he is, as he arrays himself in rich satin and other fabrics. He has a crown to symbolize his office, but rarely bothers with it. In fact, he is much more comfortable in plain, simple clothing, functional above all else, and rarely is he seen wearing anything else. Almost always, he carries with him a longbow of Elvish construction, given to him by the Lady Galadriel of Lothlorien. Also, he arms himself with two long, sharp knives. Only when it would horribly rude to do otherwise does he not carry these weapons. He's come from a time where there's a lot of war, and it shows in how he dresses, arms himself, and even how he moves around with a cautious sort of grace. Personality: Quick to joke and laugh even in the most dangerous of situations, the elven prince is rarely at a loss for words. He really takes very little seriously, which may have something to do with the fact that he's so young. Like all elves, he is a free spirit, and hates being told what to do. Being so young and having not been out in the wide world for that long, he sometimes makes decisions that are rash and lack wisdom. This tends to come out in how he deals with other people, as he sometimes light-heartedly says things that are hurtful to others. When this happens, he always tried to make amends, and since he's very charming when he wants to be, rarely does anyone actually stay angry with him for long. Background: Born in the middle of the Third Age to the Elven King, Thranduil, who ruled over the silvan elves of Murkwood, Legolas, as all elven children are, was kept close to home for several hundred years after his birth. This was a time of learning for him, for not only was he supposed to be an elven warrior, but he also had to learn to be a prince. Some lessons he learned better than others, and he was much better at being the warrior than at being royalty. Early on, he showed a great talent for the bow, the favored weapon of his people, and before long, he'd won a fair amount of renown in his own kingdom for being an excellent hunter. Before he was really supposed to be away from his home, he'd gotten restless and started wandering the landscape, looking for excitement. As the years passed, there was more than enough excitement to satisfy even him. Orcs patrolled the lands further than they had previously dared to. The coming of the Necromancer, who was later revealed to be Sauron, to his forest, was the true beginning of the challenging times for the silvan elves. When his father was approached about keeping the creature Gollum in their custody, Thranduil accepted. When he escaped, aided by the Orcs, Legolas was sent to see Elrond and explain what had happened. In Rivendell, he attended the Council of Elrond, and found himself pledged to help the bearer of the One Ring, Frodo Baggins. Along with a group of all the major races of Middle Earth, they were determined to destroy this ring that Sauron had made and desired back so desperatly. Unfortunately, the ring had a will of it's own, and quickly turned one of the company, a human, to it's will. The company found itself split, and Legolas was off to rescue two of the halflings who had gotten themselves kidnapped. He, the human Aragorn, and the dwarf Gimli found themselves amongst the Rohirrim, and they were soon firmly entrenched in a war against evil that plagued Rohan. As he, his friends, and the Rohirrim were on their way to Helm's Deep, Aragorn planned to go recruit the dead to fight for him. Legolas meant to follow him on this journey, but as he sat in the state of reverie that elves have instead of sleep, he was transported to a new, and very strange, world. Weaknesses: He's a little flighty, over-exuberant at times, and tends to not take things seriously enough. He's not always as respectful in any given situation as he should be. Strengths: He is brave, strong, and able to see the humor in any situation, which means he is rarely upset. He is very graceful, and an excellent warrior. Likes: Trees, Forests, Nature, Animals, Fresh air. Dislikes: Cruelty, Logging, Caves, Being trapped. Talents and Hobbies: Being an elf, he is very swift and light on his feet, making him an excellent archer. He spends a lot of time practicing this skill, and his arrows rarely miss the mark. He is also an accomplished singer. Family and Friends: Thranduil, King of Mirkwood, is his father. He is an only child. He is friends with members of all races. Aragorn, Eowyn, and Eomer are among his human friends. The hobbits of the shire, Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry, have a special place in his heart, and to their mutual surprise, Gimli of the dwarves has become on of his best friends.
